Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort, Montego Bay
, Jamaica
In 2004 the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort in Montego Bay planned for a major upgrade to many of its landside facilities. Included in this renovation were rehabilitation works to the shoreline. The Resort sought to implement appropriate solutions to improve the beach and swimming areas adjacent to the property. SWIL developed engineering designs for the rehabilitation of the shoreline and COMAR later carried out the construction works.
The final concept included:
- Removal (of five of the six) existing jetty structures;
- Construction of two timber jetty structures and a wedding gazebo;
- Construction of two 25m long groynes and the extension of an existing jetty;
- Construction of an offshore island;
- Sea-grass removal and replanting;
- Deepening of the seabed; and
- Beach nourishment.
