Our Values

Our core values define what’s important to us and how we do business. They guide our work, our interactions and our strategic decisions. Caring, committing, and contributing have seen us through more than 25 years of success.

We care about the people we work with and we treat each other with respect and kindness. We also care deeply about the planet and we are completely invested in doing our part to create sustainable shorelines.

We commit to continuous advancement - in our service, in our designs, and in everything else we do. We commit to the success of our company and our clients through personal responsibility and leadership.

We foster a work environment where people can contribute, innovate, and excel. We share our successes by contributing to our team, to our industry, and to the Caribbean.

We've come a long way.

Our story began with two young engineers with a vision: to bring coastal engineering expertise to the Caribbean from within the Caribbean. David Smith and Philip Warner honed their craft while working for a large Canadian engineering firm on a first-of-its-kind coastal zone management project for the island of Barbados. It was a four-year multidisciplinary endeavor funded by the Government of Barbados and the IADB. David and Philip saw the Caribbean’s vulnerability and the need to protect its uniqueness.

In 1995 they launched Smith Warner International with one tiny office in Kingston and one big project. Today, under the leadership of visionary Jamel Banton, we have 30 passionate, full-time professionals, making us the Caribbean’s largest and most comprehensive coastal engineering and zone management firm.

Strategic Partnering

We have enjoyed tremendous growth over our 25-year history and have built a team of expert professional engineers, project managers, surveyors, and technical support staff.
